For the past few months leading up to FSExpo, PMDG has been teasing us about a product that has been in the works for over 10 years. Immediately there was speculation. Could it be a 787? Could it be a business jet? Could it be another aircraft yet to come to Flight Sim?
None of these would be correct. In fact, it wasn’t even an aircraft.
What is it?
During PMDG’s FSExpo conference, attendees were eagerly awaiting the announcement they had been dreaming about for months. PMDG’s Robert Randazzo held off on his announcement until the very end. He showed off some features about the Boeing 747-8i, but it wasn’t really what everyone was here for.
The conference as approaching the end and many were disappointed and believed they weren’t getting an announcement. OK let’s not keep you waiting any longer.
Not an aircraft at all
And then it was announced. PMDG is NOT making an aircraft. They are making a virtual airline system strikingly similar to ProjectFly. What surprised us the most is that there is already a product that does what he wants to do. ProjectFly is extremely powerful and we were not expecting PMDG to enter into competition with them. However, what RSR would do next shocked many of us. He walked up to Matt Davies, who is the creator of ProjectFly, and shook his hand in front of the whole crowd. Now, we don’t know exactly how to interpret that, but it seems just a bit cheeky.
PMDG didn’t really announce many features, and didn’t show us many previews.
What do you think?
